Chaparral Wildlife Management Area is nearby as well and known for its hiking and wildlife, however, please check the website for seasonal openings. You’ll find miniature horses, heritage sheep and turkeys, lots of chickens and cats! There are always 2-5 Livestock Guardian Dogs on Duty 24/7. While the dogs are quite imposing, they are people friendly! Using LGDs is a humane form of predator control. They more than earn their keep by protecting all the critters living on the farm, as well as their humans. No matter what the weather brings, the property is in the path of many migrating birds. The State Park (Lake Corpus Christi Recreational Area) is located a short drive away. It is a couple of miles as the crow flies. The Bayfront at Corpus Christi is 35 miles from the farm, with the Northwest edge of the city just 26 miles. Padre Island National Seashore is another 25 miles from the city. Other points of interest are the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (60 miles) and Rockport (50 miles). The King Ranch is 40 miles to the south east. And San Antonio is 90 miles to the North. The farm is only 4 miles from the small town of Mathis and 12 miles from Oranage Grove, Tx. You'll find grocery stores, restaurants, gas and other shops in both. This private cabin is located on 115 acres of riverfront property and is set off about 100' from the main house. It is furnished with one double bed, a set of bunk beds, a crib and two queen beds, a day bed, television, CD player/Stereo and chair. The smaller bedroom contains the twin-size bunkbeds and there is a double bed and twin size day bed in the second bedroom. This second bedroom also acts as the common room with TV and stereo in this room. The Master bedroom has 2 queen size beds with an adjoining full Bathroom. The other Bathroom has a spacious tiled shower with built in bench. Internet is also available. The cabin has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, stove, dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer, and all untensils and appliances. The den/bedroom has the tv along with a DVD player, stereo and crib.There is also a small 16' pool that is filled for summer months to cool off in. You have access to the San Antonio River, which is great for camping, hiking, or fishing. This is a site of some old Indian battles and arrowheads and other artifacts can still be found. Also has a dirt bike trail over two miles long which is fun for motorcycles, mountain bikes, and quads. There is a large 10 foot by 20 foot attached covered deck with room to stretch out and enjoy the breeze and great country view. Kids love to camp out on this great deck. There is also a cement patio with a table and chairs in front of the cottage and a smoker that can be used to barbecue. Mesquite wood always available for use. No, we're not on the RiverWalk but we do have over a mile of San Antonio River frontage. Our home is located in the country away from city noises and congestion. However, we are only 15 minutes from the Riverwalk, Alamo Dome, The Alamo, SBC Center (Home of the San Antonio Spurs), Joe Freeman Coliseum and other exiting places and events in San Antonio. Sea World and Fiesta Texas are only 30 minutes away and Schlitterbaum, America's #1 Water Park is only an hour away. Although our river does not compare to the Comal or Guadalupe for tube floating, those locations are not too far away. So you can still go enjoy the tubing and the crowds and come "home" to peace and quiet and relax in the hot tub. We are situated on 110 acres with over a mile of San Antonio River frontage. Several nice areas have been cleared for fishing and/or swimming. Hiking and biking have been favorites for many who have stayed here. We are minutes from the Rodeo held in San Antonio every February. We have found many arrow heads and other Indian artifacts on our property. We are on the San Antonio River and the wonderful newly renovated hike and bike trail that connect all the Missions. Skip rocks on the river, watch the sunset or curl up in our comfortable, charming home. With extensive grounds, nestled on 2 acres, we have a real 'getting away from it all' feel while still being conveniently located to all of San Antonio's best attractions -10 miles to The Alamo- 3 miles to grocery stores, restaurants, a movie theater and shopping! History: The main portion of the house was built 1890ish and then the rest was added in the late 20s. All the land to the south of the home used to be owned by the Southwells. It was a pecan orchard. The river portion to your west was cut in the late 50s in order to move water out if downtown more rapidly and prevent flooding. The river to the east is the original river remnant and has incredible bird life. You may also see coyotes and wild hogs on the river. It is rumored to have been a stagecoach stop and even a brothel. We have three houses on the property available based upon the number of guests you are bringing. The number of guests will determine how many houses will be available and you can choose between the three if all three are not needed. We are very flexible and can modify rates depending on length of stay, overnight and non overnight guest, Rv usage and more. We do have three fenced areas with four foot high tension fences on two of them. Customers are responsible for their own animals and deciding if fencing is appropriate. We are in a 100 year flood plain. Last flood to the structures was in 2002. If a flood were to occur, a refund would be given for any days that the house becomes unavailable. The Property is filled with 200 -300 year old oak trees. Oak trees of this age have been known to drop massive limbs without notice. We do not recommend hanging out under these massive trees. We are on a well. We provide bottled water for drinking. The base rental price is for the first 10 guests in each house and $25 for each additional person per night in each house. There is a charge related to guests who do not stay overnight (for example if you have only 10 overnight guests but are having a 100 person wedding on site). We have the availability for rv parking and electrical service but no water or sewer service. There is a charge for rv parking. If you have need of more than one house (have many guests or just want more space), have guests that will not be staying the night, or are bringing rvs, then we will send a “special offer” offer to account for these issues.
